THE SCHOOL
The Lagos
State University, School of Part-Time
(LASU-SPTS) was established in March 2002.
Prior to its establishment, LASU had operated
various Part-Time programs under the auspices
of the various departments, using the
facilities in the University, under had
become worried about the operations of
these various abuses by their operators.
In an attempt to streamline and standardize
the operations of these programs, a committee
was established. This period coincided
with the Federal Government’s directive
on the closure of the Satellite campuses
in the Federation.
With this
development, the Lagos State Government
and LASU as its apex of educational institutions
in the State were challenged to;
- Meet
the need of the populace of the State
craving for higher education to meet the
human resource needs of the commercial
and industrial sectors of the State.
- Resolve the problem of manpower requirements
of the State as the business/commercial/industrial
headquarters of the country,
- Take education nearer and closer to
the people of Lagos State through LASU’s
Multi-Campus Status by the Edict establishing
it, and
- Put LASU in a vantage position through
the provision of qualitative educational
services.
With the
above, the SPTS was established by the
University Senate and the Governing Council
to operate the various part-time programs
approved by the University Senate in its
various campuses with the relationship
between the School and staff being purely
contractual, and the expectation that
its operations would not be truncated
by strikes knock-outs.
